Monday – We made a week!

One week ago today we were told the unimaginable after getting Chris’s lab work results. At that time we were told a few days at best and here we are one week later. We are not fooled, we know our time is very limited but to have an extra few days has been a gift that we are truly thankful for. It has allowed us to be able to say many goodbyes to friends and families, get crash courses in the many household items that Chris took care of and more family time hanging out watching moves. Don’t get me wrong, this time is like peeling off the stickiest bandage ever, but after a deep breath, we are fortunate to have the time. Not many get to plan and prepare like this.

With this all said, Chris’s kidneys and liver are slowly shutting down and he is getting tired. He shared with his nurse and me today that he is tired of this process and ready. Pretty hard words to hear. I know I can’t be selfish and I need to let him know that it’s ok. That P and I will be ok and understand that this “process” is not how our Chris wants to live.

Preston made a list of questions that he wanted to ask Chris. It was 15 questions of  “What is your favorite…” He said he wants to make sure he remembers all of his dad’s favorites. Chris was tired but answered each of them with a few “ask me tomorrow on that one.”

So another day of preparing and waiting to see what tomorrow brings. Until then, it’s time to scoot my man’s bed next to the couch and snuggle up for the night.
